Book Fair
Students, staff and parents have the opportunity to purchase books and educational tools at the Book Fairs sponsored twice a year at all of the schools. Any proceeds remaining after each school’s book “wish list” is fulfilled go to the H.S.A. to fund activities and services for the schools.
Clothing Drive
Three times a year, the H.S.A. sponsors a district-wide clothing drive collecting donations of used clothing, shoes, belts, linens, small plastic toys and stuffed animals. Proceeds are used to fund H.S.A. sponsored activities and services.
Cooks Night Off
Three times a year, the H.S.A. works with local restaurants to coordinate a night where families can take a night off from cooking and take advantage of what Readington has to offer!
Cultural Arts
The H.S.A. provides funds for a variety of programs designed to enhance the cultural education and experience of our students. Such cultural arts programs are brought into the schools periodically throughout the year at decision of the principals.
Global Village
A Readington Township “EPCOT” where parents and community members come out to showcase and represent their family culture, heritage, language, traditions etc. A wonderful evening for families to “travel” around the world to learn all about our own little Global Village.
Graduation / Moving Up Lawn Signs
The H.S.A. helps coordinate the sale of lawn signs for outgoing 3rd, 5th and 8th grade students. Families are able to order a sign to display on their lawn to show support of their student(s).
Spirit Wear Sales
A great way for the students, staff and parents to show their school spirit!!! A variety of school and district wide apparel is available for online purchase at designated times throughout the year.
Spring Social
The H.S.A. periodically presents a spring social event designed to provide an opportunity to socialize with other parents from the district and support the H.S.A. at the same time! More information to follow as the year progresses!
Staff Appreciation
The H.S.A. recognizes the hard work and dedication of the staff of the Readington School District. Special activities are planned throughout the year and during “Staff Appreciation Week” in May at the schools. The H.S.A. also recognizes all retiring staff at the end of each year for their dedication to our Readington School students.
Winter Cookie Event
Delicious cookie decorating kits are provided for children to use their creative icing and sprinkle skills to create delicious desserts!
Program Descriptions
F.I.N. (Families In Need): This program is designed to provide assistance, when needed, to children enrolled in the Free and Reduced lunch program.
Mini Grants: The H.S.A. designates a large amount of funding to support creative projects of staff members, which may not be covered by traditional budgeting, designed to support/enhance the district curriculum.
“Invest In Your Child Campaign”: The H.S.A. has developed the “Invest In Your Child Campaign” whereby each family with a child/children in the Readington School District is asked to become an Investor by making a minimum donation, at the beginning of the school year, in the amount of $45.00. As an Investor, not only are you supporting the students of Readington by helping the H.S.A. provide the activities and services outlined in this handbook, each family is entitled to a Student Directory, and you can vote in the elections as well as become an Officer or Standing Committee Chairperson of the H.S.A.
Scholarship Program: The H.S.A. awards scholarships to former Readington Township School students currently attending college, vocational or trade school. This scholarship is based on both academic achievement and financial need.
Staff Supporter: All teachers, staff and administrators are encouraged to join the H.S.A. as “Staff Supporters”. “Staff Supporters” are eligible to serve as Officers or Standing Committee Chairpersons and may vote in the elections. In addition, only Staff Supporters can nominate or be nominated for the H.S.A. Program Recognition Award or submit for an H.S.A. “mini-grant” or receive a Student Directory. To become a Staff Supporter, each teacher, staff or administrator must pay the $6.00 annual dues, as requested at the commencement of the school year.
Student Directory: The Student Directory provides staff, parents and students with a listing of the names and contact information of the students and their parents in the Readington Township School District. The information in the Directory is voluntarily provided and is not to be used for solicitation purposes. Only investors contributing to the “Invest in Your Child Campaign” and Staff Supporters are eligible to receive a Directory.
Sunshine: A district wide service provided by the H.S.A. to send well wishes to any H.S.A. Member, staff member and/or student or family who experience a serious illness, loss, marriage, birth or other life-changing event. If you become aware of such an event, please contact any H.S.A. Executive Board Member.
H.S.A. Award Descriptions:
Ihnat Award: This award is in honor of George Ihnat, past principal of Whitehouse Elementary School. At the end of the school year an award, consisting of a $50.00 savings bond and a book, is presented to an 8th grade RMS student who had previously attended WHS. The recipient is chosen by a committee of faculty and staff members from RMS. A book is also presented to the RMS library.
Fine and Performing Arts Award: This award recognizes students who show outstanding participation and skill in all of our visual and performing arts programs at RMS: music (vocal, band or orchestra), visual art and theatre.
Najaka Award: Karl Najaka, past principal of Three Bridges School, has established a fund which annually awards a $50.00 savings bond to a former TBS student. The recipient is chosen by a committee of faculty and staff members from RMS. In addition, an annual donation of library books, valued at $25.00, is donated to the TBS library, dedicated to the then current graduating class at TBS.
Program Recognition Award: A monetary award is given to a school-sponsored program or activity that reinforces the district curriculum yet goes above and beyond in engaging and educating the students who are involved. Nominations for this award are due each year in April. The recipient of this award is announced at the Annual Business Meeting in May and recognized at the H.S.A. Dinner held in June.
